The year was a challenge as we adjusted to the rhythms of a 1-year-old and 3-year-old, as well as despaired at the future of our country and the future of our everything. But we were fortunate enough to still spend winter solstice together and share our gifts and a warm day and each other.
We had the 5:30 wake up call as usual, and Isaac demanded that we break into our boxes before coffee was even ready. He was most excited about “red box,” the Lucky Charms that were waiting for him. Finley was rather pleased with the toy wands.
Because it was the middle of the week, we did get a few errands out of the way. (Oil change and Isaac’s haircut: check!) In the afternoon we had a more relevant excursion when we went to the Science Center. Thanks to Grandpa Stuart and Eri, we now have a year-long family membership, so we popped in and checked out the regular kid spots.
Bedtime came pretty early on this shortest day of the year, and unfortunately Finley got sick in the evening. Too much excitement? Growing pains? Not sure. He’s sleeping well now, so hopefully he wakes up bright and recovered.
We wish everyone a safe time and warm travels as they celebrate whenever, wherever, and whatever. Stay okay in the new year and keep searching for that something.
